Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was considered as the "Father of the nation". Mahatma Gandhi and the second Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri - they both have the same birth date which is 2nd October. Our nation remembers these two greatest Indians on their birth anniversary which is on the same date. The United Nations has adopted 2nd October as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869. All Indians celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with love and gratitude. The principles of truth, non-violence and honesty still remain so forever and Gandhi lives in the hearts of all Indians. He was the leader of the masses apart from the father of the nation. In the political history of India, the achievements of Gandhi still remain in a unique position. Gandhi was a prolific writer apart from his political career. He was the editor and writer of many famous books and newspapers. As a writer, he wrote several books including his autobiography.
On the other hand, the second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri was also the leader of Indian farmers. He was born in Mughal Sarai on October 2nd, 1904. His father, Mr. Shradha Srivastava Prasad was a school teacher and he became a clerk in the Revenue office of Allahabad later on. Lal Bahadur Shastri was a follower of the principles of Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was influenced by the major national leaders of India including Gandhi and Tilak.
As a Prime Minister, Shastri has given his enormous contributions in the development of the nation. He has given much emphasis on the development of Indian farmers. The Shastri's slogan "Jai Javan Jai Kisan" is still remembered in India.
